Acne is caused by inflammation of the oily glands in the skin - they are called sebaceous glands - that contain a fatty material called sebum. When the duct of the gland becomes blocked either by layers of skin, fatty secretions or dirt, a mini-cyst or pimple forms. The cyst can become infected with acne bacteria.

Topical prescription products may contain antibiotic ingredients such as erythromycin that help control inflammation but they may also be dangerous to delicate systems.  These chemical products are designed to clean the area, dry up the oiliness in acne-prone skin, peel aging skin and eliminate wrinkles or bacteria present, but there are many other herbal options you can choose that do the same thing.

Oatmeal - will help relieve redness and itching and inflammation associated with acne

Rosemary - is a natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial

Lavender - is a natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial and anti-microbial

Yogurt - will lighten and even out dull, patchy skin tones

Chamomile - will soothe redness and inflammation

Aloe Vera - has long been know to be a skin healer and skin cell re generator - it is most often used in its natural plant form and as a gel - to treat burns and heal dry skin

Green Tea - has been found to contain miraculous properties of cellular regeneration as well.

Vitamin A, E, C - all help contribute to your skin’s healing process by providing it with nourishing nutrients.

When in doubt, choose a natural facial mask to help heal acne scars and prevent further breakouts.

Herbal Treatments for Beautiful Skin

skin-repair-150x150 Herbal Treatments for Beautiful SkinThere are many great herbal treatments on the market today. They can come in all forms and types to help clear current acne breakous, reduce wrinkles and scars and remove signs of aging.

If you are concerned about sensitive skin issues and want a treatment that is effective yet also gentle, you should check out herbal facial masks and herbal ingredients in your skincare.  Many drugstore treatments and products may contain harsh chemicals or parabens that might not be safe for your skin or can actually cause more damage.  Harsh chemicals like salycidic acid and benzoil peroxide can actually increase redness and inflammation and increase your chances of breakouts and acne erruptions. While anti-aging treatments like acid peels and dermabrasion actually BURN and SCRAPE your top skin layer off your face!

If you use a skincare regime, try to find ingredients that will gently cleanse your skin and allow inflammed tissues to regenerate naturally, without shocking them into submission.

Natural ingredients like Chamomile, Marshmallow, Confrey, Calendula and other herbs are the best way to papmer acne-prone skin, relive redness and reduce wrinkles and signs of aging.

For beautful skin treatments:

Acne erruptions are caused by excess oil and clogged pores, so you want to find an herbal acne treatment that will also help pull the dirt and oil out of the clogged pores - clay based masks work well.  if you can, look for an all-natural option or a 100% herbal option to meet both requirements, to heal skin herbally and remove toxins.

To Reduce wrinkles:

Deep wrinkles and redness can also be produced from using treatments that are too harsh or abrasive on the skin. Your skin’s natural lipid barrier is there to protect you from infection and bacteria. Each time you wash it away with harsh scrubs or chemicals, you are changing the PH of your skin and limiting its natural ability to heal and moisturize itself.

So, the next time you are thinking about an acne-treatment, go for the herbal facial mask or herbal options and treat your skin with the kindness it deserves.

clearer-skin-150x150 How to Get a Glowing Skin?Who does not want a rosy-cheeked, porcelain complexion? The desire to remain youthful everlastingly is natural in people more so in women.

People who have a normal skin type do not encounter frequent skin problems. It is by and large people with excessive oily and dry skins who are bitten by skin disorders. People with sensitive and combination skin types also suffer from skin problems more often than not. The percentage of people with normal skin type is however really low.

If you have a dry skin, you must make use of such beauty products that contain essential plant and fruit oils. This will help to replenish the lost moisture. Similarly, people who have got an oily skin must avoid excessive washing of facial skin. The generally held belief is that people with oily skin must wash their facial skin pretty often. This is however a very misleading fact. Excessive washing sometimes stimulates the skin oil glands to generate more sebum thereby accelerating acne growth. Combination skin and sensitive skin is difficult to manage. People with such delicate skins must always conduct a patch test before experimenting with any new product.

There are a number of acne, anti aging and other skin products supplied in the beauty marts but it is hard to tell which one is the best. This is where homemade beauty remedies win the show. What’s more? There is a homemade remedy for every skin ailment! For example, potatoes are considered really effective in battling blemishes and pigmentation. Likewise cream and honey serve as effective facial moisturizers.

Skincare is not only dependent on skin type but also on a person’s skin tone. For instance, people with lighter skin complexions are more prone to sunburns and similar skin problems. It is important for a person to follow a disciplined skincare regime in order to get a good skin.

Treating Acne and Blackheads

April 27, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment

Acne and Blackheads

Acne=Free Skin

While we may not realize it, those tiny black dots on our noses, backs, in our ears and on our cheeks are blocked skin pores known as blackheads. Blackheads are dark in color because the tops of the skin pores are open to the air, so the top part of the hardened sebum or oil oxidizes, turning black (and where the term blackhead comes from).

Sebaceous glands tend to produce more oil than usual during puberty, and may be regulated to due specific hormonal changes, with some individuals continuing to experience blackheads into adulthood. Acne results when the oil gland is blockage by the blackhead and becomes infected.

Blackheads can be controlled through healthy skin regimens and the right treatments. Common health disorders like indigestion, constipation, under active thyroid and anemia may also cause blackheads.

What causes Blackheads?

Acne and Blackheads

When an over active sebaceous gland (the gland that produce healthy oils) in the skin becomes clogged with sebum, the oily secretion and dead skin cells begin to harden in the pore and results in a blackhead.
Help and treatment for people with Blackheads

Many herbal and homeopathic remedies have been formulated with specific ingredients to help keep pores unblocked and promote a healthy amount of skin oils. Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Oil) has exceptional anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-septic actions and will not dry out the skin. Arctium lappa is used naturopathically for the treatment of chronic skin conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis and canker sores.

Aspalathus linearis (Rooibos) is now known worldwide for soothing and healing effect on the skin while Bulbine frutescence is effective in preventing skin infection, healing and soothing cuts, rashes, insect bites, burns, cold sores, pimples and other skin problems. Zingiber officinalis, Aloe ferox and Hamamelis Virginia-num are also exceptional natural remedies for skin health and moisturizing.

Tips to Clear Acne and Blackheads

As far as possible, keep your skin clean and try to get regular facials (done by a professional) or if you can’t afford them, try a simple, natural facial at home.

If your skin is very oily, remember that very oily skin attracts even more dirt from the environment. Keep absorbent tissues on hand, and blot your oily patches at regular intervals throughout the day.

As far as possible try to apply only natural-ingredients based products on your face. (Use natural or chemically prepared cleansers, astringent solutions or masks). Avoid harsh soaps that may irritate the skin or any creams that leave an oily finish. Don’t be tempted to use ‘quick fix’ methods or odd lotions, and if you are unsure, or if something sounds odd, consult with a dermatologist beforehand.
